Energy Queensland Training Centre

ROCKLEA, Queensland

Project Overview

Located at 103 Marshall Road, Rocklea, the Rocklea Training Centre is a major redevelopment of one of Queensland’s key technical training hubs for the energy sector. The project reflects Energy Queensland’s commitment to a modern, fit-for‐purpose facility for training, simulation and workforce development.  We were engaged by the Vabasis to deliver the complete building services engineering design covering electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems, underpinning the architect’s vision and the client’s operational requirements.

Electrical, Mechanical & Hydraulic Building Services Engineering

Our Design Focus

Our multidisciplinary design scope concentrated around three core objectives: reliability, flexibility and future readiness.

Key Project aspects

Our Services
Electrical services
Designing power distribution, lighting, communications infrastructure, simulation labs and high-voltage training areas.
Mechanical systems
HVAC solutions for labs, equipment rooms and training spaces, ensuring precise environmental control and occupant comfort.
Hydraulic design
Plumbing, fire-protection and utility services to support large equipment, simulation bays and high-specification training infrastructure.

Challenges
& Strategic Solutions

Given the specialised nature of the facility and its role as a training centre for the energy industry, the project presented several challenges:

High equipment & simulation loads
The training centre accommodates large-scale electrical infrastructure and high-power mechanical systems. We engaged early with the architect and client to define equipment loading, service routing and maintenance access.
Operational continuity during redevelopment
While redevelopment proceeded on-site, training operations remained vital. Our services design incorporated modular phasing, accessible service corridors and commissioning schedules aligned with this requirement.
Future-proofing and sustainability
The facility is designed to support evolving energy-sector demands in Queensland. We embedded provisions for scalability, renewable integration, advanced metering and adaptable services to meet future needs.

Project

Impact

The Rocklea Training Centre redevelopment is more than a building project – it is a strategic investment in Queensland’s energy workforce and infrastructure resilience. We’re proud to support Energy Queensland’s mission by providing building services engineering that is robust, agile and aligned with future-facing industry needs.
